MMO path back then, how many people are still doing it now?

The journey of an MMO: From fuzzy chicken to bloody lessons

This article has been cherished for a long time, today I have the opportunity to sit down, calm down and look back on the journey I have gone through. Share with you, brothers who have walked together on the MMO path full of ups and downs.

Everyone used to be chicks

I entered the MMO world in 2010, when I was just an IT student who was blind to everything except a little knowledge of installing win, fixing unikey errors. The concept of making money online at that time was really attractive, just sit at home and type and have money, who doesn't like it.

At that time, information was limited, everything spread in a "word-of-mouth" style in closed groups. Just like Facebook tut/trick now, but the "tricks" at that time could earn hundreds or billions of VND, so everything was kept private.

Early tricks

Almost anyone who is just starting out will be deceived. The first and most common scam is recruitment, typing captchas, clicking ads, taking surveys... to make money. Although the money is small, for newbies, the easier it is, the more hungry.

I also used to type captcha for a while, but when I asked about payment, I didn't get a response. Later, I learned that this model also recruits chickens like multi-level, the lead will receive a lump of money and divide it among the people below.

Try your hand at Youtube reups

At that time, Youtube did not tighten copyright like now, and the number of people making content in Vietnam was also very small. The majority choose the simple route of reup the video. I used to create a dozen channels a day, hiring students to upload videos. The peak month also earns 3-4 thousand dollars.

But then Youtube squeezed the copyright, the reup almost died.

Dropship with Shopify: From Harry Potter to Pets

I stumbled upon an article about dropship on the Warrior Forum. A person who sells Harry Potter items from China to American customers, the import price of 1 dollar can sell for 5-10 dollars.

I also tried to start, choosing to sell pet supplies. Sign up for Shopify, setup theme, payment... all have plugin support. Import products from Aliexpress, customers pay via PayPal or Visa.

The problem is to pull traffic. Back then, Facebook ads were the most effective. Every day I also make a profit of 50-70 dollars. But then Facebook updated its algorithm and ran ads all at a loss, so I gave up.

Dropship Vietnamese products to the US

I found an electronic product made by my old company, which was very difficult to buy. I made a deal with the company to buy the product for sale, the import price was 2 million to sell 3.5 million.

The sales channel is website and Ebay, driving traffic using forums and Youtube. I made my own website, recording instructional videos with English subtitles. American customers are very easy-going, they like to transfer money.

But then I was played badly by an Indian customer, bought 20 and reported the product as defective to ask for a refund. I lost the lawsuit, abandoning my PayPal account.

Make money with Google Adsense

I also had a website that made money from Google Adsense, which at its peak made $300-$500 a day. I bought my old domain name, leveraging the power of backlinks. The content uses the Wayback Machine to pull from dead websites.

Currently, the website is still there, the money is enough for coffee and cigarettes. Sometimes I still write articles to help remember the profession.

Failing with Teespring

Many people have made a lot of money with Teespring, but I don't. Hire a designer, run ads but lose money.

Try Shopee dropship in Vietnam

I choose to sell bags. Setting up a store, sourcing goods is not difficult, but the problem is still traffic.

To sell on Shopee, it is almost necessary to buff purchases and reviews. I also tried taking courses on Kyna, but still didn't lose.

MMO people back then, what are they doing now?

The brothers who made MMOs in the first generation, now everyone is successful. Some people switch to crypto, some go to training, and some have their own business.

As for me, 30 years old, I am still cheating with rice, clothes, and money. Looking back on 10 years of "making money online", it is both a passion and a career. Now, if someone asks me what my passion is, I'll still say MMO.

Even though my friends have houses and cars, and I'm still struggling, every time I remember the ups and downs on the MMO road, I still feel rejuvenated.

MMO path back then, how many people are still doing it now?

I have wanted to share this article for a long time, and now that I have the opportunity to sit down and reminisce about my journey, I want to tell you who have been with me on the MMO path back then.

Start with the first steps

I started working on MMOs in 2010, when I was just a newbie with basic knowledge such as installing Win, fixing Unikey errors, and installing Office. At that time, IT students like me did not even have a clear concept of making money online. The idea of making money from typing at home is fascinating. However, with a lack of materials and knowledge, we mainly learn through closed groups and word of mouth. These tactics are often very secret and effective, so it's not easy to find information on forums or websites.

Early Lessons: Deceived and Failed

1. Type captchas, click ads, take surveys

The most common scams at that time were captcha typing, clicking on ads and taking surveys. These jobs may seem easy but are actually just a trap to attract new people. I once tried to do captcha typing, but in the end I didn't get any money because the organizers only profited from recruitment.

2. Reup YouTube Videos

At that time, YouTube didn't tighten copyright as strictly as it does now, and it was quite common to reup videos from other sources to make money. I created multiple channels and uploaded videos constantly, but then YouTube changed its policy, making this method ineffective.

3. Dropshipping With Shopify

I started dropshipping after reading an article on the Warrior forum about selling Harry Potter products to customers in the US. I experimented with pet products, using Shopify and automated plugins. The initial results are quite good, earning about 3-4K USD per month. But after Facebook updated its advertising algorithms, running ads became difficult and inefficient.

4. Dropshipping from Vietnam to the US

I switched to selling electronic products from Vietnam to American customers. Using forums and YouTube to drive traffic has helped me achieve some success. However, an incident with a customer caused me to stop selling because I had trouble with PayPal and eBay.

5. Make Money Through Google Adsense

I also made a website and used Google Adsense to make money. At its peak, I was able to make between $300-$500 a day using my old domain name with the power of time and backlinks. However, making money from Adsense takes a lot of time and effort, but is still a steady source of income.

6. Sell t-shirts on Teespring

Although there are many people who have had success with Teespring, I haven't had any luck. Hiring a designer and running ads didn't give me the results I wanted, and I decided to give up.

7. Dropshipping on Shopee

I experimented with selling handbags on Shopee. Despite a lot of experience, competing with similar products and managing traffic from the source does not bring good results. Despite many courses and strategies, I still couldn't succeed.

What are the MMOs of those days doing now?

MMOs at the same time as me have achieved great success. Some have moved into crypto, others have become trainers, and some have had their own businesses. Looking back on the journey of the past 10 years, I feel that MMO is both a passion and a "career". Even though my friends have houses and cars, I am still struggling with money, it feels really bad.
